New Signals in Arts Technologies - Seminar Programme

Kunstsilo and the Lumen Prize invite you to a unique seminar exploring the evolving relationship between art and technology – from deep-sea ecosystems and artistic collaboration to emerging creative practices and new ways of experiencing digital art. Each talk brings together perspectives from leading international artists, curators, and cultural institutions. Panel #1: Time & Title: 12pm | Nordic Interface: Degrees of Interest with Entangled Others Short Description: Meet the artists behind Kunstsilo's new commission and discover how the work developed through mentorship and experimentation. Description: Join artist duo Entangled Others and their mentors for a behind-the-scenes look at Degrees of Interest, the inaugural commission for Nordic Interface, a new program by Kunstsilo and The Lumen Prize. Exploring competing perspectives on the value of deep-sea ecosystems, the artists will introduce their practice and the ideas behind the work, followed by a conversation with their mentors about the research, creative decisions, and challenges that shaped its development. Together, they will reflect on the role of mentorship, experimentation, and collaboration in bringing the commission to life. Panelists: Feileacan Kirkbride McCormick (Entangled Others, Norway) Sofia Crespo (Entangled Others, Argentina) Irene Campolmi (Amos Rex, Helsinki) Britt Salvesen (Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles) Melanie Lenz (Victoria and Albert Museum, London) Sebastian Sanchez (Brevan Howard, London) Panel #2: Time & Title: 1pm | The Liminal Review 2026 Short Description: Discover emerging trends in art and technology through more than 2,200 submissions to the Lumen Prize. Description: What can this year’s Lumen Prize submissions tell us about the changing relationship between art and technology? Dr. Rachel Falconer presents key findings from The Liminal Review 2026, drawing on more than 2,200 submissions from 82 countries to examine the ideas, technologies, and creative practices shaping the field today. The presentation will be followed by a conversation with Myriam Achard of PHI, exploring the wider cultural questions emerging from the Review and what they reveal about the evolving role of artists in shaping our technological futures. Panelists: Dr. Rachel Falconer (Goldsmiths, University of London) Myriam Achard (PHI, Montréal) Panel # 3: Time & Title: 2pm | Unfamiliar Encounters: From Alienation to Spectacle in New Media Art Short Description: Explore how museums and curators help audiences encounter and interpret technologically complex artworks. Description: Since the emergence of media art in the 1960s and 1970s, artists have worked with forms, systems and processes that challenge established ways of experiencing art. As these practices have entered museums and festivals, questions arise around how audiences encounter technologies that may be unfamiliar or difficult to understand. This panel explores the tension between alienation and spectacle: between preserving a sense of uncertainty and the desire to make technologically complex work accessible, engaging and immersive. Bringing together perspectives from different institutions, the discussion considers how curatorial approaches shape the ways audiences encounter, interpret and connect with new media art. Moderator: Gonzalo Herrero Delicado (Curator & Educator, Central Saint Martins / Royal College of Art, London) Panelists: Prodromos Tsiavos (Onassis ONX, Athens) Sarah Mackenzie (MUTEK, Montréal) Annie Bicknell (Tate Modern, London) The seminar will be in english.
